Pyrocystis noctiluca is a large bioluminescent alga with globose cell morphology. The spherical cells of P. noctiluca have a diameter in excess of 0.2 mm. During the night, cells produce potent blue light when shaken or disturbed. Algae are packaged in Nalgene™ PETG sterile square bottles.

The algae in each flask will live for approximately 1 month from purchase. Maintain at room temperature under fluorescent lighting or under indirect natural light. Prevent exposure to direct heat, direct sunlight, and excessive temperature fluctuation. To extend the lifespan of bioluminescent algae, purchase additional growth medium. Cultues of bioluminescent algae can persist indefinitely if periodically diluted with new growth medium. Detailed care instructions are included in shipment and are available for download. This product is non-toxic and safe for use with children. Pyrocystis noctiluca is not a causative agent of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and is not a toxin-producing species.
